Reno, NV — Vere Software this week marked the introduction of on-site training designed to help its customers understand Internet evidence collection and use its WebCase software to its fullest potential.
“WebCase is designed to be an easy to use documentation tool. The training course provides investigators with the basic techniques needed to investigate crime on the Internet and properly document this electronic evidence using WebCase,” said Todd Shipley, Vere Software president and CEO, who presented the material.
The two-day training covers various aspects of Internet investigation, along with how WebCase strengthens online evidence collection and its legal defensibility. Detection and prevention of Internet-based crimes is covered, along with Web pages, social networking sites, online gaming, bulletin boards and newsgroups, instant messaging and chat, and undercover operations. The training was sponsored by the Medford, Mass. Police Department
, but detectives from law enforcement agencies in the greater Boston area attended. They included members of Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task forces, human trafficking investigative units, and other disciplines.
Underscoring the importance of this kind of training, Shipley provided insight to Boston CBS News affiliate WBZ-4
on catching the Craigslist killer via IP address.
“VERE Software's WebCase training is ideal for online undercover investigators (public and private) who need to adequately collect and professionally document their activities in support of their criminal and civil cases,” said Lt. John McLean, commander of the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Computer Crime Unit
Law enforcement is a primary user group, but WebCase—and the training—is useful to many different vertical markets, including human resources, insurance, financial institutions, and private investigators.
